World’s Largest Pilots Union Charts Future Path, Elects National Leadership Team

October 28, 2026

WASHINGTON — The Board of Directors of the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) today reelected Capt. Jason Ambrosi to a second four-year term as president and set the union’s priorities for the years ahead, from requiring ADS-B In on every airliner to keeping two pilots on the flightdeck at all times.

Ambrosi, a Delta Air Lines captain first elected in 2022, has led ALPA through one of the most consequential periods in its 95-year history. Under his leadership, ALPA pilots negotiated 24 new contracts, beat back efforts to reduce the number of pilots on the flightdeck, and returned more than $150 million in dues to members for the first time in the union’s history.

“ALPA pilots don’t just fly the plane. We lead the charge for safety, and we speak up, to government and to management, on behalf of our profession. Over the past four years, through tragedy and triumph, bankruptcies and contract negotiations, and in the halls of Parliament and the Capitol, we have made our industry and profession stronger and safer. We negotiated numerous new contracts and helped pass an FAA reauthorization bill that protected our top priorities. That’s because our safety work and our pilot representation go hand in hand. Strong contracts protect our ability to speak up when we see something wrong. I’m honored that my fellow pilots have trusted me to continue that work,” said Ambrosi.

ALPA’s Board also elected Capt. Doug Grant (Hawaiian Airlines) as the union’s first vice president, F/O Tyler Hawkins (United Airlines) as vice president–administration/secretary, and Capt. Wes Clapper (JetBlue Airways) as vice president–finance/treasurer. The term for ALPA’s new national officers will begin on January 1, 2027.

“The years ahead will test this union. Our airspace is changing faster than at any time since the dawn of the jet age, and ALPA’s position is simple: every new entrant must meet the same level of safety we do. We will finish the fight for ADS-B In and carry on our union’s most solemn tradition, turning loss into lasting change. As the strongest pilot union in the world, we owe the safety of our industry and the strength of our profession to the ALPA members who came before us. That never means we can rest on our laurels. Our success for nearly a century is a call to action,” added Ambrosi.

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the largest airline pilot union in the world and represents more than 80,000 pilots at 42 U.S. and Canadian airlines. Visit ALPA.org or follow us @ALPAPilots on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
