Workforce Alignment is a Key Execution Factor, Pilots Say Ahead of FedEx Investor Day

Feb 09, 2026

Memphis, Tenn.— FedEx Corporation will host its Investor Day on February 12, 2026, where senior leadership is expected to outline long-term financial targets and next steps in the company’s broader corporate transformation. As FedEx highlights progress under its DRIVE cost-control initiative launched in 2022, pilot representatives say workforce alignment remains a critical factor in the company’s ability to execute those plans.

FedEx pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA), have been operating under an outdated labor agreement and have been in negotiations for nearly five years. Negotiations are taking place amid significant operational and structural changes at the company, and the duration of negotiations underscores the importance of bringing frontline labor meaningfully into the transformation process.

“Transformation works best when the workforce responsible for executing it is fully engaged and valued,” said Capt. Jose Nieves, FedEx Master Executive Council chair. “Pilots are fully aware of the environment the company is navigating, but long-term success depends on alignment, stability, and mutual trust. A durable agreement that aviation professionals can support is a prerequisite for executing long-term targets.”

The pilot group is currently engaged in mediated negotiations under the National Mediation Board. Recent discussions have produced measurable movement in defined areas, while major economic items still require substantive movement.

FedEx employs hundreds of thousands of workers globally across air, ground, and logistics operations. Labor groups note that consistency and reliability across these operations are closely tied to workforce stability—an important element of execution risk as companies pursue cost reductions and structural change simultaneously.

As investors assess FedEx’s forward-looking strategy during the upcoming Investor Day, stable labor relations should be viewed not as a peripheral issue, but as a core component of reliable operations and long-term value creation.

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the largest airline pilot union in the world and represents more than 80,000 pilots at 42 U.S. and Canadian airlines. Visit ALPA.org or follow us on X @ALPAPilots.
