FedEx Pilots: Efficiency Requires More Than Cost-Cutting
MEMPHIS, Tenn.—Following FedEx Corporation's latest earnings report, the FedEx pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Int'l, said the company's results reinforce a point that pilots have made for years: Efficiency cannot come at the expense of resilience.
"FedEx pilots understand what it takes to run an efficient network because we fly and support that network every day around the world," said Capt. Jose Nieves, chair of the FedEx ALPA Master Executive Council. "Reducing costs alone does not create an efficient operation. Reliability depends on having the people, equipment, and resources necessary to keep the network moving and recovering quickly when disruptions occur."
For more than a year, FedEx pilots have consistently warned that running the network with a limited margin for disruption can make recovery more difficult and reduce resiliency during irregular operations. Those concerns are even more relevant as FedEx undertakes the largest transformation in its history.
"As FedEx continues to transform its business, reliability will remain essential to the company's success," Nieves said. "FedEx has built its reputation on dependable service and maintaining that standard requires continued investment in the people and infrastructure that support the global network."
FedEx pilots remain committed to supporting the company's long-term success and to delivering the reliable service that customers have come to expect from FedEx.
