Western Global Pilots Bargain for New Contract Amid Operational Uncertainty
For Western Global Airlines pilots, the effort to secure a first collective bargaining agreement has taken place amid a particularly complex and evolving operating environment. Since joining ALPA in 2021, the pilot group has worked toward an agreement that reflects competitive compensation and reasonable work rules.
Negotiations began in 2022 and later moved into federal mediation in October 2024. While bargaining dates are scheduled through April 2026, progress has been affected by external factors, including the U.S. government shutdown in October 2025.
Following bankruptcy proceedings in 2023 and a restructuring in 2024, the airline expanded its pilot group to 147. However, the FAA’s indefinite grounding of the MD-11 freighter fleet this past November has led to operational disruptions and furloughs.
In response, ALPA is providing comprehensive support to its members, including legal guidance and career assistance, as pilots navigate this period of uncertainty. Having successfully worked through bankruptcy and restructuring, the pilots remain engaged and hopeful that continued dialogue with management will lead to progress and help support the airline’s long-term stability.
