United Pilots Strengthen Engagement and Prepare for Future Bargaining

The United Airlines pilot group experienced considerable growth in 2025, with more pilot hiring planned for 2026. Master Executive Council (MEC) leaders welcome this steady influx of talented aviators as the union evolves to provide better services.

The pilots’ Professional Development and Family Awareness Committees raised the bar on ALPA’s outreach to new-hire pilots with its “New Hire” dinner events. Each new-hire pilot and their families receive a dedicated evening among their peers and colleagues to learn about the Association and the vast professional and personal resources that come with membership.

Beyond new-hire engagement, Family Awareness events have reached thousands of United pilots to reinforce the bonds they share and emphasize the importance of families in pilots’ careers. The MEC also honored the bravery and sacrifice of those who preceded the current group of pilots with a special 1985 United Pilots strike 40th anniversary event.

At the same time, MEC Negotiating Committee members showcased their leadership and experience during ALPA bargaining workshops, sharing their skills with attendees. These events teach fellow Association pilots about high-stakes negotiations from both sides of the table. Looking ahead, the MEC and Negotiating Committee will continue polling and soliciting pilot feedback ahead of contract openers planned for early 2027. The MEC wants pilots to enter the next contract cycle informed, unified, and prepared for the opportunities ahead.
