Keewatin Pilots Maintain Stability by Solidifying Internal Structure
With the pilots’ first ALPA-negotiated contract behind them, Keewatin Air Master Executive Council (MEC) leaders spent 2025 growing and solidifying their pilot volunteer structure. The MEC’s first priority was addressing the lack of union knowledge within the group, as many of the pilots had been hired shortly after completing flight school and had limited to no union experience.
In March, the Membership Committee was established to help newly hired pilots become familiar with ALPA’s many services and resources. The MEC also sought volunteers to fill various MEC committee positions.
By summer, MEC leaders had stood up Jumpseat, Professional Standards, Pilot Assistance, Occupational Health and Safety, and Fatigue Committees.
In 2026, the MEC will once again be preparing for negotiations, as the pilot group’s two-year collective agreement expires at the end of the year. The pilots are eager to open contract talks and build on their current collective agreement to enhance their quality of life and compensation.
This first collective agreement is a good foundation for us to layer on for years to come. Each subsequent agreement will build on the successes of this one and assist with career progression with our members.
