Union Strength Delivers: Pilots Achieve Landmark Contract
Air Inuit pilots reached a historic milestone in September 2025, voting overwhelmingly in favour of their first collective agreement under ALPA representation. Since joining ALPA in 2023, the group has established a robust organizational structure, launched a comprehensive communications program, and successfully navigated more than a year of challenging negotiations with management.
The new contract delivers significant gains in compensation, scheduling stability, paid leave, and career progression while addressing a central challenge: retaining experienced aviators in an increasingly competitive industry. It also introduces modern management tools, such as a preferential bidding system, to improve transparency and fairness in scheduling.
Throughout the bargaining process, Air Inuit pilots demonstrated remarkable unity and professionalism. With high participation and support, they sent a clear message to management about their determination to secure sustainable careers with the airline while strengthening the reliability of air service in Nunavik, Qué.
For nearly 50 years, Air Inuit pilots have flown in some of the world’s most challenging conditions, from gravel strips to extreme weather, serving Inuit villages across Nunavik. Their first ALPA contract underscores both the skill required to operate in this environment and the vital role they play in northern community life.
