New Contract, New Growth
Armed with a newly ratified agreement in 2024, the pilots of Air Canada spent 2025 implementing contractual improvements. These included upgrades to onboard meals, a simplified hourly expense system for per diems, creation of a crew pairing review board, enhanced parking benefits, greater vacation flexibility through the optional bank plan, and stronger provisions for special days off. A subsequent revised agreement for training, project, and nonrevenue flight operations pilots provided additional pay uplifts.
Unfortunately, management hasn’t honoured all the provisions and timeliness of the new agreement, and several articles are moving to the grievance process. This underscores the need for continued vigilance in defending the collective agreement and enforcing the results of bargaining. The pilots’ current contract becomes amendable in September 2027.
The Master Executive Council (MEC), which elected new officers in February 2025, has also placed an emphasis on unity and pilot engagement, building stronger communication with members and families to ensure that collective strength remains a cornerstone of bargaining and representation.
Meanwhile, the pilot group continues to expand as Air Canada pursues its fleet growth strategy, with deliveries of new B-787-10s, A321XLRs, and additional A220s.
