About the ALPA Scholarship Program

Eligible Applicants

To be eligible for the ALPA Scholarship Program, the applicant must be the child of a medically retired, long-term disabled, or deceased ALPA pilot member. Although the program envisions the selection of students enrolling as college freshman, students who are already enrolled in college may apply, if they meet the aforementioned criteria. Students must be enrolled in a program of studies principally creditable toward a bachelor’s degree.

Awards

• One four-year undergraduate college scholarship is awarded each year. The total value is $60,000, with $15,000 disbursed annually to the recipient for four consecutive years, provided that adequate academic standing is maintained (3.0 GPA).
• One single-year undergraduate college scholarship for $10,000 is awarded to an eligible applicant.

Acceptance Criteria

Completed applications must be received by April 1 and include the following documents:

• Online form Parts 1, 2, and 3

Part 1 - Application for Scholarship

Part 2 - Financial Information

Part 3 - Secondary School Report

• Official high school and/or college transcript(s)
• Two letters of recommendation from individuals not related to you: one from a teacher and one from someone who knows you outside of school.
• Essay (two pages) describing why you should receive the ALPA Scholarship

The ALPA vice president–administration/secretary and vice president–finance/treasurer are responsible for selecting the recipients by July 31 of each year.
