Free & Fair Collective Bargaining
A strong Canadian airline industry depends on workers and employers negotiating in good faith—without government interference.
Protecting Workers’ Right to Bargain
Collective bargaining is a fundamental right and a cornerstone of fair and productive labour relations. When the government intervenes to end labour disputes in the federal sector, it undermines good-faith negotiations, discourages employers from bargaining sincerely, and violates the constitutional rights of Canadian workers.
Recent government interventions have weakened the bargaining process by allowing employers to rely on Ministerial intervention rather than engaging in meaningful negotiations. This practice prolongs disputes, prevents fair agreements, and threatens the cooperative culture that aviation safety relies on.
Keep Government Out of the Process
We strongly advocate for the Canadian government to allow collective bargaining to run its course—free from interference. Employers and workers must remain at the bargaining table and do the hard work required to reach fair, freely negotiated agreements.
To protect this process, we support enforcing Bill C-58, preventing surface bargaining, and keeping binding arbitration and government-imposed settlements off the table. Short-term disruptions are far less harmful than long-term disengagement from the workforce that keeps Canada’s airline system strong.
We remain committed to working with the government and aviation stakeholders to ensure a fair and sustainable future for aviation workers and the industry as a whole.
